Syrphus® - The innovative Tiltwing (VTOL) Design
Are you searching for an airframe sollution for Mini UAV (Unmanned
Aerial Vehicle) applications that can surmount a long distance in
economic (aerodynamic) flight and then switches to hover mode
for close and steady observation?
While Quadrocopters are operating between 0 and 25 mph and fixed
wing UAVs between 20 and 60 mph Syrphus® UAVs have both
capabilities without losses towards common fixed wing configurations. In general, hybrid
airplanes are based on expensive mechanics and a complex FCS (Flight Control System), but
with the ease of the hoverfly Syrphus® UAVs are performing the transition between hover and
horizontal flight and vice versa using the full spectrum of velocity.
The electrically driven Syrphus® UAV is the only Tiltwing/ Tiltrotor UAV below 8 lbs MTOW
(Maximum Take-Off Weight including 10 000 mA/h battery power and e.g. Bental´s
MicroBAT 275 color daylight camera) and that features the ability of Vertical Take-Off and
Landings (VTOL) from and on water.
The small packaging footprint of the Syrphus® “Io” will be only 28 x 13 x 6 in due to a
foldable wing mechanism.
